Inspiration (Research 1)

Films Inspiration

The robot idea is about a robot who travels from the factory to the plain fields with other robots to build a city, but instead the robot slowly evolves into a child by his emotions and feelings while the city is building higher. Before going into making the animation, I will require to do a research to get ideas.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence

Film A.I. Artificial Intelligence is one of fantastic examples which relates with group robot idea. A.I was directed by Steven Spielberg about a company who builds real human robots called Mecha the advanced humanoids that can think thoughts and emotional feelings.

During the story, one of the robot humanoid boys believes he can turn into a real boy by looking for a fiction tale character the blue fairy from a kids story The Adventures of Pinocchio that he wanted to have love for his mother, and be a real boy.

I also discover the film was inspired by an Italian novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by the author Carlo Collodi, 1883. About an old man who works as a carpenter, and he built his wooden son Pinocchio and taught him how to walk and be a normal person.

The Iron Giant

Film The Iron Giant, 1999 directed by Brad Bird and it is about when a giant robot from outer space crashed in Earth in 1957 in a US state Maine with no memory. When a nine year old boy founds a crashed Iron Giant trapped with electrical wires and the boy frees him, and the giant wants to learn more from the boy, and the boys shows him a comic book of superman explaining  “that it can be who he chooses to be”.

This shows a gentle Iron Giant has emotional feelings to be a good or evil. At the last the scene of the animation the Iron Giant saves the town from nuclear missile by courageous suicide to be a hero and as he was inspired by the superman comic books.

The good thing about the Iron Giant that he is one of the 1950s robot style which is more interesting for part of the research of making a robot character.

Robots

Film Robots, 2005 directed by Chris Wedge, and it was an interesting film because everything is machines and robots building each other and they all have emotional feelings living in robot world such as the main character Rodney who has a dream of working for Mr Bigweld as the inventor. Normally in our days when we built robots they don’t have dreams or emotional feelings, whereas in the film they do. And I admire the city machinery scenery of the film.

The city machinery scenery would be a good scene for my small animation film of robots building up the city while one robot refuses to follow to build the city.

I, Robot

Film I, Robot, 2004 directed by Alex Proyas, and it’s set in the futuristic Chicago 2035 when anthropomorphic robots where built for to support the human society and obeys the laws to protect humanity. What I like about the film is that it relates with my idea to the film when the new robots were built that one of them is only different and learning more of human emotions. When the robot doing blinking eye contact with the protagonist as a symbol for trust.

The city is more futuristic with combination of modern and future style of the Chicago structures.
