Robot Ideas (Research 2) Video Games

My group were discussing about designing a robot as the protagonist of the film, by making same model designs with other robots to be the unusual one to be chipped with the emotional chip. Before going to design, and so we are looking for different existing robots from films, animation and video games. First I go look for robots in video games before going to film/animation.

Fallout New Vegas Robots

I been playing a video game called Fallout New Vegas, and is about you set in a post-nuclear apocalypse Mojeve dessert in year 2281 after the great nuclear war that destroyed the world. The type of style in the game is 1950s sci-fi, and they have interesting 50s style robots in which they were inspired from the old sci-fi films.

YES MAN

I have research my favourite robots from the game I played for referencing to get ideas.

This robot is name Yes Man, and his race of robots is securitrons from the game Fallout New Vegas, and he was used be to a security robot for city New Vegas until he was taken by casino gangsters in the game.

He does have emotional feelings during the game when sometimes I being negative or positive through the story.
This is one of his quotes:

"You did a super job wrapping things up, and I'm not saying that because I have to!"

What I like about him, that he sometimes he changes his face expressions when playing through the story, whereas the other securitrons have same faces of military soldier and policeman. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=v7xME0aFbC4 (Video)

This is the video game teaser trailer of one of the securitrons, and I seen this character before that he rescues the player from buried alive after got shot in the story. You can also see how he changes his face expression from happy to anger when something went terribly wrong, and I quite like the animation that brought messages to audience to buy this game.

Prim Slim

This robot name is Prim Slim, and his race of robots is protectron. He is a casino guide for a fictional Vikki and Vance casino in a town Primm.

What I like about him, that he is been programmed with an cowboy impressions, and he is wearing a cowboy boots and hat. I like the way how the animators or game designers made him not advanced robot, and they just made him like Robbie the robot from film Forbidden Planet.

This is one of his quotes:

"Always good to see you, pardner! Anything I can help you with?"

Mr. Steel

This robot is name Mr Steel, and his race of robots is Mister Gutsy, and he was made before the post- apocalyptic, and the great nuclear war according to the game fiction-history.

However, in the game they were some hostiles in New Vegas, so they have to be killed in the game. Not all different types of Mister Gutsy are hostile, but some of them are allies.

What I like about Mr Steel, he has three arms and one head, and floats in air which is good. However, I prefer to have my own robot with body parts that can walk rather than hovering.

Team Fortress 2 Robots

The game I play currently is Team Fortress 2, and the game designers introduce a new gametype called Mann Vs Machines which got me to look at the 50s-70s style robots.

This is a Heavy Robot, and what I like about him that he is simple detail robot replica of another character name Heavy in which they are identical and hostile to each other. These robots are like similar   style of the Iron Giant but in 2.5D. I was discussing with my group, thinking we should have our robot with facial expression with body parts like this heavy character, but make it as a child form. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=B1EoHrVVbv4 (Video)

This trailer explains about the robots were built from a mobile factory to fight the humans. The quality texture in the animation helps in making of what the texture or colour is going to be like in our animation.

Portal 2 Robots

The game I played long time ago is called Portal 2, however I only complete Portal 1, and not finishing the second episode. It is about main character who have to rebuild the main computer back to life by passing through difficult puzzles while only just using portal gun. However in the game they have clean modern cyborgs that can support in making ideas for my teammates robots designing.

ATLAS and P-body

These two robots are coop campaign characters, the orange is ATLAS, and the blue is P-body. They have strong relationship together as partners in the game.

The designs of the character brought some interests to me because I was discussing with my group that we should have our robot to be futuristic rather than 50s style robot, so I went to look at these Portal 2 robots.

Having simple colour textures is much easier to design.

The trailer of the video game for coop campaign, explains about there relationship and emotional feelings. I like the trailer because it relates with our robot factory scene of how our robot was built and this gives support for my story of when my robot is built, and whats was his role to do.

Turrent Bot

This is a turret bot and they are use to shoot the players in the game, and they never move, but only shoots at their sights. What I like about the turret is that he is more simple texture, and good reflection effects. He is more less complex than ATLAS and P-Body characters for animation and game. My team and I were discussing that we should focus on design our robot style. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Mo0vjUEO_v8 (Video)

This is the last ending scene of the game about the Turrent Bots singing to the single player, and I like the animation of matching the Turrent Bots movement with the music together goes really well.
